T. 6N, R. 3E, SW1/2 NW1/4 NE1/4 SE1/4 Sect. 30 Illinois Route 185 (FAP 777), east side, 0.1 mile south of German Reformed Cemetery, 0.6 mile northwest of Little Hickory Creek bridge; about 10 miles due east-southeast of Vandalia. Powerline clearing. Brownstown 7.5 minute U.S.G.S. quadrangle. Elevation 580-590 feet. Disturbed sandy clay-loam. Dry-mesic upland forest, open roadside bank with prairie elements, dominated by Juniperus virginiana, Prunus serotina, Quercus imbricaria, Cercis canadensis, Vitis riparia, Tridens flavus. Locally common shrub 2 meters tall, fruit about mature, branches nodding from weight; pale male catkins immature; leaves paler beneath; west-facing forest margin. Steven R.
