Mississippi River floodplain. Ware 7.5 minute U.S.G.S.
quadrangle. Elevation 340-350 feet. Alluvial soil,
muck, shallow water.
Cypress swamp bordered by floodplain forest,
dominated by Forestiera acuminata, Populus
heterophylla, Taxodium distichum, Fraxinus
pennsylvanica, Salix nigra, Cephalanthus
occidentalis. Common small tree about 10 meters
tall, dominant at midstory; fruits green, pendulous,
nearly mature.
