A 9 SA Herbariua of Newberry College PLANTS OF GUYANA, SOUTH AMERICA Eichhornia heterosperma E. J. Alexander in Smith PONTEDERIACEAE Plants abundant in water up to 15 ca deep of depressions in shaded pasture. Steas subaersed or on aud with leaves held vertically above the water. Flowers violet, fully open at 10:00 an. Outer three perianth lobes narrowly ovate and alaost coapletely white; inner three lobes about two tines wider and violet with a narrow white aidline; the upper central lobe dark violet near base. Developing fruits seen, but none with nature seeds. GUYANA. Mahaica District: Wet roadside pasture partially shaded by palm trees on south side of Verinogen. Along highway from Helena (point where coastal Highway crosses Mahaica River) to Cane Grove. About 25 km SE of Georgetown.
