Herbarium of Newberry College PLANTS OF GUYANA, SOUTH AMERICA Eichhornia heterosperma E. J. Alexander in Smith PONTEDERIACEAE Plants abundant in shallow, wide roadside ditch between highway and roadside hoses. Plants in less than 20 ca of water. Steas subaersed with leaves held vertically out of water. Flowers violet, but mostly wilted at 3:30 pa. No nature fruits noted, »any sterile plants, soae with subaersed linear leaves. GUYANA. Demerara District: Roadside ditches (trenches) along coastal highway just outside town of Better Hope. ^ About 10 km (by air) east of Georgetown. Water distinctly eutrophic with algae growing on submersed vegetation. with John Wiersema & Tim McDowell 7 MARCH 1991 Charles N.
