Hilltop pasture, on open E-facing pasture
slope with Ulmus americana, U. rubra, Quercus
alba, Populus grandidentata, Ostrya
virginiana. This habitat unusual for the
species, normally confined to floodplains.
Tree 18 m. tall, 75 cm. diam.; bark thick,
deeply and coarsely furrowed. Young leaves
and twigs glutinous. No flowers or fruits.
Voucher for wood specimen, MADw 46256; wood
from a branch.
