Parkway at Marion Ave.
Young tree 9 m. tall, 18 cm. in diameter. One of seven
individuals of this species here among numerous Prunus
serótina, Acer negundo and a few Celtis occidentalis and
Ulmus americana, all the same age and size, which had
sprung up when a grove of Fraxinus americana died from
the “ash decline” about 10 years ago and were removed
along this area in the park area, but nothing new was
planted. There are larger, cultivated trees of Zelkova planted
along the Mosholu Parkway ca. 100 m. away (see no. 53312
collected 14 June 2005), and these seven are undoubtedly
local escapes. Flowers green, just before full anthesis. This
tree collected again under no. 53310, with leaves and green
fruit, 12 June 2005.
