Grassy, flat roadside with very sandy soil, on dry terrace of
Mississippi River valley, former sandy prairie (“Amsterdam
Prairie”), now with scattered trees of Populus deltoides,
Ulmus pumila and a few planted Pinus strobus, Thuja
occidentalis.
Definitely naturalized here. Small tree, 4 m. tall, 10 cm. in
diameter, abundant in many places north of La Crosse and
Onalaska on the flat sandy upper terrace of the Mississippi
River valley.
