Canyon. T28S R56W section 35 SE% of SWA and T29S R56W
section 02 NE% of NWVi. 37.55473°-37. 55475°N, 103.65543°-
103.65688°W (±16-20 ft; determined by GPS; datum = WGS 84).
Elevation 4420-4500 ft.
Steep, primarily E-facing slopes above Purgatoire River, with
boulders and gravel of Permian Day Creek Dolomite common on
lower to middle part of slope, cliffs and outcrops of red-brown
Triassic siltstones towards top of slope, and mostly non-calcareous
gravel on ridge above slope. Shortgrass prairie vegetation on
uplands, grading to Juniperus monosperma woodland with
Artemisia bigelovii, Atriplex canescens, and Yucca glauca on
slopes, and weedy, disturbed Populus deltoides woodland with
scattered Sambucus nigra at base of slope. Soil silty to gravelly.
Scattered in woodland. Large shrubs to 2 m high. Trunks to 8 in
dbh.
