Disturbed woods and edges with Acer saccharinum, Robinia pseudoacacia, Ulmus americana, Platanus occidentalis, Juglans nigra, the understory dominated by Lonicera maackii. Shrub 5 m, tall 12 cm. in diameter; bark deeply furrowed, light brown. Common at edge and the dominant shrub in the understory. Branches arching. Fruit immature, green, held above the twigs, the leaves held below. Coll.: M. Nee 58019 30 June 2011 02442006
