Along portion of old road near entrance to Lower Wisconsin
Wildlife Area, in Wisconsin River valley, but well above the
flood plain. Grassy and brushy, with Acer negundo, Populus
deltoides, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Celtis occidentalis, Viburnum
lentago, much naturalized Lonicera x bella complex.
Shrubs 2-3.5 m. tall, perhaps some planted, but others surely
naturalized, all eleven numbers {Nee 54374-54384) from different
plants to collect the whole range of variation, and all plants
collected seem to key to L. x bella. Corollas range in all shades
from pure white to dark pink, some fading yellowish, others not,
but all plants had pubescent leaves and twigs. No L. tatarica
(glabrous leaves and twigs) or L. morrowii (bracteoles nearly
equalling the ovary in anthesis) were collected here.
This plant: Corolla pink on outside in bud, lighter pink within
when open, fading to a definite yellowish.
