Mori, 1988 THE NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN PLANTS OF FRENCH GUIANA No. 19012 Melastomataceae Ballucia grossularioides (L.) Triana. SaUl. 3°37'N, 53°12'W. vicinity of airstrip. 200 m alt. Along airport road and Secondary vegetation, ca. Tree, 15 m x 25 cm. DBH. Leaves dark shiny green, entire margins, 5 main veins arising above base of blade. Flowers slighty zygomorphic. 52 mm diam. 8-9 petals - pink outside, white on inside. Stamens 16-18 forming ring in center. Large flattened anthers with fold at bottom. Capitate, sticky stigma exerted asymmetrically from ring of stamens. Fruit a flattened globe with remnants of torn calyx adhering to rim. S. Mori & C. Gracie 18 June 1988 02425818
