Habitat
Growing on dense steep slopes among dense tangled growths of low shrubs and herbs. Often on rock ledges and crevices in full sunny exopsures.

Description
Flowers pale purple, with vamillion red calyces and ovaries. Young growths slightly red, with pale hairs. Stiff, usually upright shrubs to 5 ft tall (though usually considerably smaller).
