Habitat
Growing on steep slopes among dense tangles growths of low shrubs and herbs. Often on rock ledges and crevices in full-sunny exposures.

Description
Flowers pale purple, with vamillion-red calyces and ovaries. Young growths slightly red, with pale hairs; stiff, usually upright shrubs to 5 ft tall (though usually considerably smaller).
