Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to "Magia da Montanha" blog page (http://amagiadamontanha.blogspot.com/2013/05/abraco-na-serra-dos-orgaos-extra.html, accessed: 11/30/2015) for a map of the Serra dos Orgãos mountain range. This mountain range was turned into a national park, Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgãos, in 1939. The highest elevation of Serra dos Orgãos is 2220 m; georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of the peak of the Serra dos Orgãos mountain range, in Guapimirim, Rio de Janeiro. Used the reference material and Google Maps – Earth and Terrain Views to locate the mountain range, spanning approximately from the cities of Piabetá to Teresopolis. Located the peak of Serra dos Orgãos, using visual evidence from the Terrain View and Map View (Parque Nacional da Serra dos Orgãos polygon) to determine. Used the Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the coordinates at the approximate geographic center of the peak. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to approximate the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of 2200 m elevation contour line of the mountain. Input coordinates, coordinate source (locality description), coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (259.78 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: Bounded Area).
