T 8 N; R 2 W; sect. NEKNEVi sect. 3.
Extensive prairie, 0.44 km , established ca. a decade ago by
the Department of Natural Resources on former farmland on
flat sandy soil of “rock terrace”, within the Wisconsin River
trench but well above the current floodplain of the
Wisconsin River. Sorghastrum nutans, Andropogon
gerardii, Ratibida pinnata, Solidago rigida.
Clumps of few stems, to 1.2 m. tall. Rays bright yellow.
This species has never been seen before in 50 years of
botanizing in Richland County; the nearest herbarium
specimen localities at WIS are from ca. 50 km. south and
east of this spot. It was undoubtedly part of the prairie seed
mix planted here.
