Habitat
On steep shaded banks along trees and shrubs or at higher altitudes on open slopes, along rocks in streambed.

Description
Flowers purple, stiffly pendant, to 1 1/8" long, narrow, bell-shaped (almost tubular). Stems and young growth, ovaries and calyces with short red glandular hairs. Leaves small, deeply veined and hairy. Rather stiff, upright plants to 5ft tall.
