Habitat
On open hillsides among coarse rocks and boulders.

Description
Flowers deep purple, with scarlet ovaries and calyces. The fls. are held stiffly pendant, and do not appear to open fully. The texture of the petals is rich and satiny. To 1/4" long. Leaves small, deely veined and hairy. Stems woody. The young growth, both leaves and stems is particularly handsome, covered with soft, deep-red hairs. Stiffly upright bushes to 4 ft tall.
