On semi-shaded banks of small quebradas, where it represents the lower altitudinal counterpart of no. 16330 (q.v.). Petals black-purple, less obovate, less abrubtly cuneate, similarly inrolling to form a false tube. Occasional.

Shrub about 1 m. high, in the paramillo thickets below the Espeletia zone, or at ele. 3200 m. Phenology of specimen: Fertile.
