Bosque andino and elfin coriaceous shrub.

Description
Multiple-stemmed compact, elegant shrub to 4 m, stems brown, young stems reddish; leaves coriaceous, slightly discolorous, dark green glossy above, somewhat paler and dull below, calyces dark blood-red, corollas in bud dark pink, petal outer surface pale pinkish mauve, inner face pale whitish pink, anthers ochre-brown with a dark purplish black spur.
