Phycotheca Boreali-Americana. Collins, Holden, and Setchell.
694. Mitophyllum violaceum ferma crisputum Setchell ms.
On stones between tide marks, Carmel Bay, Monterey County,
California, Jan. 11, 1899.
W. A. SETCHELL.
Specimens with crisped edges and regularly ilabellate branches are
fairly common along the coast of California from Monterey and Santa
Cruz southward. These characters are more pronounced in the younger
plants than in the older ones, and it seems hardly possible to separate
them specifically from the other forms of N. violaceum; consequently they
have been referred to that species under the form name of crispulum.
