-
Habitat
In partly wooded lawn area, with Robinia acacia and other trees, some planted, some seemingly spontaneous.

Description
Small tree, probably spontaneous. Crushed parts strongly and offensively aromatic. Note hairs along midrib on underside of leaf. The cultivated and spontaneous trees at the New York Botanical Garden (Nee 52590, 52592-52602) uniformly possess thick, furrowed, light gray, corky bark, and the female trees have similar inflorescences and fruit at this time of year. There is some variability in leaflet shape and amount of pubescence on the underside of the leaflets, but assigning the specimens to the other ill-defined species or varieties in the literature does not seem possible. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
