Frond 1-7 cm. long, membranaceous, bright green, laciniate, split to the
base into irregular segments; substance thin, delicate, less than 10 mic.
in thickness; cells arranged in compact rows, generally four-angled, 4-6
mic. in diameter; membrane in empty cells narrow but distinct.
Forming a dense growth on Zostera. In shallow quiet water.
Between Brown and San Juan islands, Washington.

The form should probably be placed between M. fuscum (Post, and Rupr.)
Wittr. and M. leptodermum Kjellm., as described by De-Toni. Syll. Al-
