Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Referred to a geotagged image of a radio tower (https://ssl.panoramio.com/photo/1127231, accessed: 12/30/2015) to locate the nearest radio tower to the city of Domingos Martins in the adjacent town of Santa Isabel, Mun. Domingos Martins. Tower is located at coordinates: 20° 23' 5.28" S 40° 37' 2.87" W, according to the website; Google Maps satellite imagery and elevation information confirms the location. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic midpoint of the unnamed road which leads to what is assumed to be the radio tower stated in the locality description in Mun. Domingos Martins, Espírito Santo. Used Google Maps – Earth and Terrain Views to locate the unnamed road which leads to the radio tower. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line from the beginning of this road (intersection of Rod. Pres. Costa e Silva and unnamed road, at: -20.381948, -40.609022) to the approximate end of this road (farthest point road can be detected, at: -20.386993, -40.619943), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose the point along the unnamed road nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximated geographic midpoint of the road. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the road. Input coordinates, coordinate source (locality description), coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (646.20 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, road, stream, path).
