Description
Presumably native shrubs, 3m tall, to 4cm in diameter. Inflorescence hanging or nodding to nearly horizontal. Flowers lightly fragrant; petals white; filaments white; anthers light yellow. A very similar cultivated ornamental shrub (Atha 54306) from a few blocks away differs from this native P. virginiana at the New York Botanical Garden by all the flower parts being larger; the inflorescence shorter and more crowded, with the flowers contiguous rather than slightly separated, and by having ca. 40 instead of ca. 20 stamens. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
