Distribution
Phycotheca Boreali-Americana. Collins, Holden, and Setchell. mi i. reiNunub (jyniurmis a. & e. s. Gepp. A. & E. S. Gepp, Jour. Bot., Vol. XLIII, p. 2, Pl. COCCLXYIII, fig. 1, 1905. In a shallow bay with P. capitatus Lamarck and P. Lamour- ouxii Decaisne, at the eastern end of Mariguana Island, Bahamas, Dec, 1‘2, 1907. New York Botanical Garden Expedition to the Bahamas, collected by Marshall A. Howe. This is perhaps the most common of the species of Penicillus in the Bahama Islands, where it seems always very distinct from P. capitatus and P. Lamourouxii, with which it often grows asso- ciated. In southern Florida and Cuba it sometimes imitates P. capitatus, but remains distinguishable by the character of the ulti- mate branchlets of the corticating filaments of the stipe, which are elongate and taper-pointed instead of being short-oblong, truncate, or capitate.
