Judd, 17 Jan 2011 St. Thomas Parish: Blue Mountains. Blue Mountain Peak and along upper section of trail to Portland Gap (from Whitfield Hall). Elev. 2150-2250 m. Elfin cloud forest. With Mecranium purpurascens, Miconia rígida, Miconia rubens. Saw Miconia quadrangularis and Mecranium virgatum at slightly lower elevations along trail (i.e., 2030-2040 m). Other common plants incl. Viburnum, Podocarpus, Vaccinium, Eugenia, Myrsine, Eupatorium, Ilex, Cleyera, Lobelia, Lyonia, Myrica, Senecio, Baccharis, Psychotria. Extremely common shrub or small tree to 4 m tall; immature fruits green. (Species becomes less common below 1900 m, but also observed lower on trail to Portland Gap.) coll. Walter S.
