    Note: "This specimen has no, or very short, pollen filaments, which is commonly associated with male sterility or reduced fertility as a consequence of incomplete anther development. This specimen was collected in August, and unless something went wrong with the anther development, pollen should already be released even in a cold year. For these reasons, I believe this specimen is of hybrid origin. However, I wouldn’t rule out c. lepidocarpa, it is most likely one of the parental species. Several traits are indeed very much like C. lepidocarpa: cauline leaves and vegetative leaves are much shorter than the culm; the pistillate scales have a red-brownish flush; staminate spike peduncle is relatively long with a slight angle; the pistillate spike bracts are narrow, short, and turning downwards (at least not upwards). I believe that C. cryptolepis might be the other parental species. This could potentially contribute to the narrow and long shape of the pistillate spikes. Also, the leaves of C
