  • Description

    Pileus 7-18 cm broad, convex to plano-convex to plane, dry, subvelutinous to matted tomentose, yellowish brown to raw umber (5E-F8), near linoleum brown (5E7) with age, with incurved margin that is slightly sterile when young, decurved with age, sometimes slightly lobed when young. Flesh lemon yellow, slowly changing to blue, up to 2.5 cm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes adnate to adnexed to deeply depressed around the stipe, up to 2 cm long, yellow changing to blue green with exposure; pores 1 mm broad, brown to cocoa brown (6E8-7) when young, becoming yellow ochre to Pompeian yellow to olive yellow (5C7-6 to 4C7) with age, with little brown pigment remaining, changing to blue when bruised. 4-12 cm long, 1-3 cm broad, clavate at first then equal, strict or sometimes curved, dry, glabrous to pruinose at first, remaining so or developing a fine pruina with age, melon yellow (5A6) overall at first, melon yellow above and reddish brown (7E6) toward base with age, even at first, becoming slightly ridged with age; interior yellow becoming blue with exposure, but pale pink in the base. KOH (-) on pileus, ochraceous on flesh. With spore print, and basidiospore measurements.
