About 3 meters high with few slender, elongated branches, these 3 to 4 cm. in diameter; ribs about 7, obtuse; tubercles about 1.5 cm. apart, circular, long-woolly as well as spjny, flowering areoles not much numerous, acicular, longer ones 3 to 4 cm. long; flowers bo: long; fruit somewhat depressed, about 3 cm. broad; seed i Common in thickets near Tehuantepec, Oaxaca by Dr. C. A. Purpus near Geronimo in April 1923. It N. Collins from this region in 1902. The plant is namecj to our attention more than 20 years ago while carry« for the U. S.
