Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of Fazenda Piquiá; instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Rio Acarí in Mun. Borba, Amazonas. Used Google Maps - Earth View to locate Rio Acarí, a tributary of Rio Canumã. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the mouth of Rio Acarí (confluence of Rio Acarí and Rio Canumã) and the headwaters of Rio Acarí (approximated through the dense forest cover), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Rio Acarí nearest to the midpoint of the line; used Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate midpoint of the river, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Rio Acarí. Input coordinates, linear extent (150950.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
