  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to locate the precise locations of "Camp III" and "Tatú;" instead, georeferenced to the geographic center of the confluence of Rio Cauaburí and Canal Maturacá (synonymous with Rio Maturacá) as a rough estimate of the locality region in accordance with the locality description. Used Google Maps - Earth View to find the confluence of Rio Cauaburi and Rio Maturacá, in the Serra de Neblina mountainous region in Mun. Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, Amazonas. Used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the confluence, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to find the approximate linear extent of the confluence of the two waterways by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the confluence (166.51 m). Because of the added uncertainty due to the inability to find the precise location stated in the locality description (Camp III and Tatú), used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to measure from the selected coordinates to the approximate geographic center of the mountainous region of Serra da Neblina within Brazil. Input coordinates, linear extent (27430.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
