Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Locality description was too vague to find any gun club along Highway 4 so georeferenced the entirety of Highway 4 within the extent of Duluth (spatial boundaries provided by Google Maps). Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Highway 4 within Duluth, Saint Louis County, Minnesota. Used Google Maps – Earth/Map Views to locate Highway 4 within Duluth, MN. Used Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the start of Highway 4 (at: 46.797025, -92.107023) and the end of Highway 4 (at: 46.851053, -92.153794) within Duluth, then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Highway 4 nearest to the midpoint of the line. Used Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic midpoint of Highway 4. Used Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent of the highway by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the highway. Input coordinates, coordinate precision (0.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (3490 m), and measurement error (10 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, stream, road, path).
