Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Cold Water Canyon, south of Plainville in Adams County, Wisconsin. Used Google Maps – Earth, Map, and Topographic Views to locate Cold Water Canyon in Adams County. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the beginning and end of Cold Water Canyon, then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point within Cold Water Canyon nearest to the midpoint of the line. Used the Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic midpoint of Cold Water Canyon. Used the Google Maps – Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent of the canyon by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the canyon. Input coordinate source (locality description), coordinates, datum (WGS84), coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), extent of named place (854.97 m), and measurement error (10 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Named Place: River, stream, road, path).
