  • Location

United States of America. New York. New York Co. New York City. Central Park, Shakespeare and Delacorte, west of Belvedere Castle and E of Shakespeare Garden, slope on north side of 79th St transverse.

  • Habitat

    Mostly fallow ground.

  • Description

Tree 13 m tall, the trunk 85 cm diam; bark dark grey, rough, with nearly diamond shaped blocks and long, narrow furrows. There are numerous saplings all around the tree. This may be the parent of the specimen found at the weather station, ca 70 m SSW on other side of the transverse (Atha & Alvarez 14179, sapling). This tree is growing right on the edge of the transverse, leaning out over the roadway. If it was planted here, the ground probably eroded away on the side toward the road, because no one would plant a large tree so close to the edge on top of rock. Phenology of specimen: Fruit.
