Habitat
Sandstone with soil-filled cracks and drepessions, with precipitous slopes and valleys.

Description
Straggling herb to ca. 2.5 m tall, supposted by adjacent vegetation, borne singly from fibrous rootstock. Stems and leaves dull pale green, with strong menthol odor. Stems concave-sided, winged, and contracted at nodes. Flowers borne at apex of flowering stems. Bracts, calyces, and pedicels dark red. Corolla pale tomato-red outside, pale orange within; anthers dark purple; filaments palest pink. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
