On rocks in the lower intertidal and upper subtidal zones and to a
depth of about 5 fathoms. Brown Island, near Friday Harbor, Wash-
ington, U.S.A. (Lat. 48ř32'N. Long. 123řW.).
DESCRIPTION: Thallus repeatedly branched, up to 40 cm. high and
40 cm. wide, blood red in colour with a primary and proliferous blades
having short stalks. Outline of blades circular or fan-shaped.
