Frond flattened, cartilaginous, dark reddish-purple in color, 1-1.6 dm. in
height ; main axis 2-4 mm. in diameter ; branches alternate, distichous ;
branchlets pinnate, ultimate ones obtuse, simple or lobed ; cystocarps
ovate, sessile, borne on the ultimate branchlets ; tetragonidia borne in
bands below apices of ultimate branchlets ; cystocarps and tetragonidia
seem to be borne on different plants.
Attached to rocks.
