Myriogramme multiloba (J.Ag) Zylin (loo.oit.)r p.58.
From all of the evidence at hand it appears the-t Harvey
had immature material upon which to "base his Uitophyllum
Fryeanum. The material was contributed hy Mr.A. D.Frye from
the Golden Gate, California.-Finding the species thus imper-
fectly described is probably what led Agardh (loc.oit.) to
redesoribe it under the name H. multilobum, based upon good
fruiting material, especially tetrasporio plants, very
characteristic of the species, contributed from the same
locality by Berggren. later, Agardh (loc.oit.ip.45) follows
Farlow in-applying Harvey^s name to plants collected at
Santa Cruz, California, and distributed in the Alg.Exsioo.
Am.-Bor.,no. 69. Hott (loc.oit.) was of the opinion that
Harvey's description, imperfect as it is, more nearly suits
the plants of Agardh?s Uitophyllum multilobum than the plants
distributed by Farlow (loo.oit.) Setohell, after having ex-
amined thematerial in both Harvey?s and Agardh?b herbaria,
states in his unpublished notes that he is of the same opinion.
And finally',' Kyi in (loo.oit.) has given expression to the same
opinion but did not make the obvious change on the ground that
the two speoies belong to different genera. In the same work
he transfers Hitophyllum multilobum J. Ag. to his new genus
Myriogramme.
I have examined abundance of fresh fruiting material and
find that the gonimoblastsi have " endstandigen Sporen" instead
of having the "Sporen in Xetten,? as Kylin?s diagnosis gives
for Myriogramme. I am therefore removing it from that genuse
and placing it with the genus Hymenena as outlined by Kylin
(loc.oit.) under the above new combination. This makes
Hymenena Fryeana (Farlow) Eylin untenable.
