  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Parque Nacional do Tapajós in Pará, Brazil. Referred to ICMBio website: Parques e florestas Nacionais: Floresta Nacional do Tapajós (http://www.icmbio.gov.br/portal/o-que-fazemos/visitacao/ucs-abertas-a-visitacao/214-floresta-nacional-do-tapajos.html) and "Figure 2 - Forest types within the Tapajós National Forest" of "Trees of the Tapajos: A photographic field guide" (Parrotta, J. A., Francis, J. K., and R. Rolo de Almeida. "Trees of the Tapajos: A photographic field guide." USDA Forest Service. General Technical Report IITF - 1. (1995) accessed 23 October 2013) for location information for Parque Nacional do Tapajós. Using the reference material as well as Google Maps - Satellite View, located the location of Parque Nacional do Tapajós, which is bounded by Rio Tapajós to the west, BR-163 (Santarém-Cuiabá road) to the east, Rio Cuparí and Rio Tinga to the south, and approximately km 50 along BR-163 (Santarém-Cuiabá road) to the north. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure total extent of the forest; then halved this distance to approximate the geographic center of the area. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the geographic center of Parque Nacional do Tapajós. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) again to find linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the forest. Used linear extent as the uncertainty radius.
