GELIDYUM PUSILLUM, Le Jol. g fSt?l2.
The'Original description of Pucus pusillus (Stackhouse X®
Brit. p. 16^ is, I conclude, based on the gathering from Sidm<j
| ?
and supplemented by the specimens from Brighton. Borrer?s Br^
gathering is at Kew, and consists, in part at any rate, of Ge]
crinale, a fact which accounts for a certain vagueness in Da?.vsuw
Turner?s figures and perhaps also in Stackhouse's fig. G, (PlateiiVl)
The typical forms of these two species are very distinct, but
occasionally puzzling intermediates occur. I enclose two specimens
| of G. pusillum (tetrasporic and C3^etocarpic) as understood in this
j country and on the Continent: it is not uncommon on bare shaded
rocks (see Stackhouse fig. A). G. crinale, on the other hand, is
usually found on sandy rocks (i.e. rocks more or less covered
j with loose sand), or in sandy rock-pools, and is, as will be seen
I from Batters? Catalogue, a very variable species.
The short form of G. aculeatum known as var. abnorme, Batters
has been at times mistaken for G. pusillum. I enclose a specimen
of this and also of G. crinale.
