Description
Crooked tree. Stem 2 feeet thick, irregularly round, crooked, 35 feet high, branched toward the top; wood dingy white, odorless and tasteless, not hard but very tough; bark very thick, latericius and more or less checked on the surface, the outer half beneath the epidermis yellowish, the inner half whitish, easily peeling from the wood; main branches few, crooked, rebranched; twigs ascending, dull green, long, sparingly rebranched; the thick leathey leaves ascending sides coarsely wavy toward the recurved apex, lucid dark green and shallowly folded on the upper side, paler green beneath; spike erect, green as is also the calyx, corolla nearly ochroleucus; the fragrant flowers rigid, divaricate, the parts in four, fruit hard, green, ovoidly ellipsoid, rugosely angled toward the blackish brown apical point, at least 1/2 inch long.
