Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to 6 km north of 59 km along the road which connects the cities of Humaitá and Lábrea in Amazonas, Brazil. Using Google Maps - Satellite View, located the road which connects Humaitá and Lábrea, BR-230. Beginning at the location where BR-230 meets the approximate geographic center of the city of Humaitá, used the Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure 59 km (59.0026 km) along the road toward Lábrea; used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the offset. Used the Distance Measurement Tool again to measure the linear extent of the starting location, Humaitá, by measuring from the geographic center of Humaitá to the nearest named place, Bela Vista, then halving this distance (the city of Humaitá does not have defined spatial boundaries on Google Maps). To find the 6 km north offset from 59 km along BR-230, input coordinates, offset direction (N), offset distance (6 km), linear extent (6.412 km), measurement error (.0005 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Offset at a heading).
