70(0 Ontonagon County, Michigan Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. subsp. australis T52N, R40W, NE1/« SE1/« Section 25. 46.87114° N, 89.31740° W (WGS84). Between railroad tracks and abandoned Typfta-dominated channel, near downtown Ontonagon. Very dense patch of about 1200 m2 (paced), with scattered shoots outside this patch. Mesic to wet sandy loam, in light shade to full sun. Patch a near-monoculture except for suppressed Cornus rugosa, Rubus idaeus var. strigosus, and Solidago canadensis. Surrounding shrubby, open woods of Acer negundo and Alnus incana subsp. rugosa, with Caiamagrostis canadensis and Phaiaris arundinacea the dominant herbaceous plants.
