  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Georeferenced to the geographic center of Rio Itacaiúnas within the Serra dos Carajás mountain range in Parauapebas, Pará. Using Google Maps - Terrain and Satellite Views, located Rio Itacaiúnas, a tributary of Rio Tocantins, within the mountainous region of Serra dos Carajás. Used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure a straight line from the beginning of Rio Itacaiúnas within the mountainous region (at confluence of Rio Itacaiúnas and Rio Azul) to the approximate end of Rio Itacaiúnas within the mountainous region, then halved this distance to approximate the location of the midpoint of the river within Serra dos Carajás. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the midpoint of the river, on the adjacent shore. Input coordinates, linear extent (distance from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of Rio Itacaiúnas within Serra dos Carajás, 37428.3 m.), and measurement error (.1 m.) to find the uncertainty radius. Site is located at the approximate geographic center of the Serra dos Carajás region.
