Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of "Terceiro Batalhão de Infantaria;" instead georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Vila Bittencourt, which sits along Rio Japurá in Amazonas, Brazil. Referred to "Vila Bittencourt" on Wikimapia.org website for location information for the village (http://wikimapia.org/4093408/pt/Vila-Bittencourt). Using the reference map and Google Maps - Satellite View, located Vila Bittencourt along Rio Japurá in Amazonas, Brazil. Used Canadensys Lat/Long Crosshairs to find the coordinates of the approximate geographic center of the village. Because Vila Bittencourt does not have defined spatial boundaries, used Distance Measurement Tool (Google Maps) to measure from the selected coordinates to the geographic center of the nearest named place, the village of Aldeia dos Makus (also along Rio Japurá), then halved this distance to approximate the linear extent of Vila Bittencourt. Input coordinates, linear extent (7066.85 m.), and measurement error (.01 m.) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
