  • Georeferencing Method

Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to find the precise location of Porto Alegre; instead, georeferenced to the approximate geographic center of Rio Amajari in Mun. Amajari, Roraima. Used the Google Maps - Earth View to find the precise location of Rio Amajari, a tributary of Rio Uraricoera. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of the mouth of Rio Amajari (confluence of Rio Amajari and Rio Uraricoera) and the headwaters of the river (approximated through the dense forest cover), then halved this distance to find the midpoint of the line. Chose a point along Rio Amajari nearest to the midpoint of the line; used the Google Maps - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the geographic midpoint of the river, on the adjacent shore (collection assumed to be terrestrial). Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the river. Input coordinates, linear extent (90580.0 m), and measurement error (50 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius.
