Fig. 1. Acrochaetium crassipes Boergs. (x250).
Of this epiphyte I found a few specimens growing upon Hetero-
siphonia Muelleri and Polysiphonia ferulacea. The specimens on the
former (fig. 1 a) reached a height of about 65 jx ; the basal cells had a

5
diameter of 10-11 [j., the branches tapering gradually upwards to
5-6	fi. The sporangia were 8-9 ¡1 long and 5-6 [a broad. No hairs
were present. Each cell had a large central pyrenoid, but the shape
of the chromatophore could not be seen.
The specimens upon P. ferulacea (fig. 16) were more slender. The
thallus reached a height of 80 (i. and the filaments had a diameter of
6-7	(j. at their base and 5-6 at the summit.
The plant was originally described and known only from the
West Indies, but an Acrochaetium referred to the nearly related A.
catenulatum Howe has been found by Mme. Weber at Macassar
(Algues du Siboga, p. 193).
India : Dwarka, epiphytic on Florideae.
