Enteromorpha flexuosa (Wulf.) J. Ag.

Conferva jiexuosa Wulf., in Roth, “Cat. Bot 11,” p. 188, 1800.
TLe thallus is simple and tubular, cylindrical and smaller
downwards, gradually increasing upwards, becoming inflated and
flexuous. In surface view, cells are rectangular or polygonal, more
or Jess longitudinally arranged, about 8-16 m diam. The membrane
is about 20-24 n thick, with thicker inner walls about 7-8 m thick.
This species is very comnon on the Hainan coast. It is easily
distinguished from E. tubulosa Kuetz., which is also simple and
tubular, by its less distinctly longitudinally arranged cells and its
inflated upper portion of the thallus.
Habitat: On rocks and in rock pools in the upper littoral belt.
