BOTANICAft GARDEN Enteromorpha Marchantae Setchell & Gardner, sp.nov. Proc.Galif.Acad.Sei.IV.12:716.pi.16.f.40-42. 13 My 1924 Fronds 4-7 cm. high, up to 1 cm. wide in widest parts, tubular, more or less búllate, clavate, taper- ing below to a delicate stipe, simple or with a few branches like the main frond and with delicate pro- liferations on the stipe; cells in the smooth parts arranged more or less in longitudinal and in cross rows, mostly square in surface view, 16-22 p. diam. , membrane 24-27 ]x thick; cell walls 2.5-3.5 ]x thick, not thickened on the inside; chromatophore not fill- ing the cell, mostly in the outer end of the cell. Cast ashore at La Paz, Lower California. Type, Marchant, no. 3, May. In form this species seems most closely related to forma clavata of E. intestinalis. It differs from all of the forms of E. intestinalis in having a thin wall on all sides of the cell, in having the cells arranged more or less in longitudinal rows, and in having the cells nearly cubical.
