intertexta n. sp,
Proa. Am. Acad. Arts. & Sci. '36:^3. 1901.
Filaments 200-350|i dLam., articulations one to three« diam-
eters, usually one and. one half to two; sparingly branched, bran-
ches naked or with short, usually secund ramuli; “ terminal cells
blunt, roonded. Tufts densely matted, prostrate.
The plant ^orms dense masses on the bottom of oools, oree-o-
ing over the coral sand and broken shells; the unright branches
are usually simple, and the plant resembles an entangle mass of
some coarse Ohaetomorpha, rather than a Cladophora. but occasion-
ally the free branches have a series o^ secund, two or th^ep-
celled ramuli, issuing one from each articulation. In the entan-
gled mass more branching o^ this character will be 'Vund, also
long normal branches in no definite order, ^he habit o" in-
ter text a is much like that of 0. re pons (J. Ag.) ^arv., but the
filaments are two or three tim°s as Irrg" as in that species, and
the color is a light green, somewhat whitish in drying, instead
o	A the dull olive green of 0. rep°na; the latter has, moreover,
a vaguely dichotojaous branching, and articulations many times --
according to Harvey, even twenty times -- the diameter. 0. her-
jaestica (Mont.) Kaetz. has filaments o" about the same size as
<$: ’intertesta, but it has long articulations, up to fifteen dia-
meters ,'and Trregular branching, with the upper branches fasci-
culate .
